Understanding premiums over spot

What the 'spot price' actually is, and why you always pay a bit more than it for a physical coin.

Spot is the price for immediate delivery of unfabricated metal in the wholesale market, quoted per troy ounce. It is the reference every physical product is priced from.

Why you pay more than spot

How we show it

On every product page we break the price into the metal value (live spot × the coin's fine weight) and the premium, shown separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for. The premium is set per product.

Selling back

When you sell metal back, you typically receive spot minus a small spread. The round trip — buy premium plus sell spread — is the real cost of holding a physical coin for a period.
