A proof coin is struck with specially polished dies onto carefully prepared blanks, usually more than once, which produces mirror like fields and frosted raised design. Proofs are made in limited numbers for collectors rather than as bullion.
Once a proof has been graded by NGC or PCGS, it is sealed in a tamper evident holder with its grade and certification number. NGC uses PF for proof grades and PCGS uses PR, so a perfect proof reads PF70 or PR70. The very top grades often carry an Ultra Cameo or Deep Cameo designation for strong contrast between the mirror and the frost.
Certified proofs are priced on the coin, the year, the mintage and the grade, not on the gold price. We source these to order, so tell us what you are looking for and we will find it and quote it honestly.
How sourcing works
- Tell us the coin, year and grade you are looking for.
- We find it, check the holder and the certification number, and quote you.
- You decide. Nothing is charged until you accept the price.
