1. About us
This website is operated by The Gold Merchant. You can contact us at info@thegoldmerchant.co.uk. Our company details are shown in the footer of every page.
2. Not financial advice
We are a dealer in precious metal coins. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing on this website, in our guides or in our conversations with you is financial, investment or tax advice.
The value of gold, silver and platinum can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you paid. Past performance is not a guide to the future.
3. Products and descriptions
- We describe every product as accurately as we can, including its weight, purity and specification.
- Photographs may be of a representative coin. Bullion coins are supplied in mixed years unless a specific year is stated or agreed.
- Certified coins are sold as graded by the independent grading company named on the holder.
4. Prices
- Precious metal prices on this website are calculated live from the metal market and change throughout the day.
- Prices shown are an indication. Your price is confirmed with you before you pay, and the confirmed price is the price of your order.
- Prices include VAT where it applies. Investment gold is exempt from VAT; silver, platinum and accessories carry VAT.
- If we make an obvious pricing error, we will tell you and you will not be held to it, nor will we.
5. How an order is made
- Sending us a basket or enquiry is a request, not a contract.
- We reply to confirm availability and your price.
- A contract is formed when you accept the confirmed price and we receive your payment.
- We may decline an order, for example if an item is unavailable or we cannot complete the checks below.
6. Identity and anti money laundering checks
We may ask for proof of identity and address before accepting an order or payment, particularly on larger orders, to meet our obligations under the Money Laundering Regulations. We may refuse or cancel an order if these checks cannot be completed.
7. Payment
We tell you the available payment methods when we confirm your order. We do not dispatch any order until payment has cleared.
8. Delivery and risk
We deliver to UK addresses only, fully insured, tracked and signed for, as described on our Delivery page. Risk passes to you on delivery, and ownership passes to you once we have received payment in full.
9. Cancellation and returns
Our Refunds & Returns page forms part of these terms, and explains how UK law treats precious metals whose price follows the market.
10. Tax
We describe the general UK tax position on coins in good faith, but tax depends on your circumstances and the law can change. Take your own advice.
11. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, our liability for any order is limited to the price paid for that order. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
