Sovereigns have been struck for over two hundred years in their modern form, which gives collectors an enormous field: different monarchs, different mints including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Pretoria, Ottawa and Bombay, and special issues such as coronation and memorial coins.
A certified sovereign has been authenticated and graded by NGC or PCGS. For a modern coin, the gap between MS69 and MS70 can make a large difference to price, and for an older coin, the population at each grade often matters more than the grade itself.
